Week 3 Challenge of QSC finally done.

It’s now Saturday and I have finally put the Aweber plugin on my blog, with what I think is quite a useful “ethical bribe” to hopefully tempt visitors to give me their names and email addresses.

There’s no specific reason why it has taken me all this time to complete the challenge, I guess it’s just the usual everyday chores that need to be done. I’ve also gotten used to the fact that the medication I have to take daily makes me so drowsy in the early afternoon that I have to take a nap for 2 to 3 hours.

So that always takes a slice out of my available time.

I thought about writing something myself to use as a free tempter to lure visitors to click the Sign Up button, but available time seemed to be less this week, so I’ve gone with a PLR ebook (with give-away rights, of course).

I spent some time looking through all the PLR material I’ve already got. I was going to go for something like a WordPress plugin at first and I had a couple lined up ready to go.

But then I came across this ebook, “Blog Profits”, which is quite substantial at 54 pages and a suggested selling price of $27. Usually with something of this suggested value and the useful information it contains, the PLR rights bar it from being given away – but not on this occasion.

I’ve been reading it myself and have found some truly useful information, so I decided to offer it as my free gift. The list below has been copied from the Table of Contents. If you are interested in owning this ebook, please fill out your name and email address and click the button labeled “Sign Up” in the side bar.

Huh…How Many Visitors To My Blog?

Slight embarrassment when Dean asked on the Week 3 Quick Start Challenge call how many visitors we had seen to our blogs since installing Google Analytics, which was one of the challenge actions of Week 2.

I had everything listed that needed to be done and checked them off one-by-one. I was pleased with my achievements, especially since it was also over the Easter period that week and for most of that weekend I didn’t go near my computer.

When Dean asked about visitors, I realized that I had not checked my own stats.

Logging into Google Analytics, my blog was nowhere to be seen. The only ones there were old test and training sites, no longer online, that I had set up some time ago.

Checking my site, I could certainly see the Google Analytics Plugin. So, I had loaded the plugin and probably got distracted by something.

Hmm…..Maybe it was my 4 month old cocker spaniel (Flora)?……..Maybe it was time for dinner?……

…Who knows?….But I think I’ll go with taking Flora for a walk…..dogs can’t argue back!

Anyway, I’ve setup Google Analytics now and looking into Flora’s soulful eyes – as she is sat on the floor next to my desk as I am writing this – I have to take full responsibility for not completing the task. Just annoying that I have missed out on a week’s worth of stats!

I want to go back to the point I made above regarding minimizing my computer time over Easter.

It’s important to keep in mind the reasons why we are all doing the QSC. Our lives and wellbeing are intertwined with our families. Spending more time with them certainly comes top of the reasons for me, without having the financial worries that usually accompanies what is known as “free- time”.

As if our own time is not really our own and we are selfishly taking it away from someone or something else that is the true owner.

This sense of guilt is something that has been “bred” into us in Western society. 19th century Victorian era values of a “work-ethic” and how it is “sinful” to be idle. But their view of “idle” was someone who was not an aristocrat or not from an old established and wealthy family (old money).

Our lives are the single most important asset each of us possess and yet it is something that we most readily squander.

When our final day on this earth comes, none of us want to regret how we placed greater priority and importance on our careers and a faceless multi-conglomerate corporation rather than our partners and/or children.

There’s no going back; no refunds; no credit given for precious lost moments of time. The corporate machine places no value on that time, there is no profit to be made, it is a wasteful and inefficient use of an expensive company resource.

Indeed, I was once a company “resource”, but I am now grabbing back the life and “free-time” that truly belongs to me and no-one else. And I am no longer a “resource”, an employee number in a company’s database. Marked up with a set of marketable skills available for the company’s financial exploitation.

I am a man and my name is Michael Flanagan – call me Mike – I have a loving family. A wife, 3 grown up children and a Cocker Spaniel puppy called Flora. I have a daughter and 2 sons. My daughter will be getting married next year, my older son is currently living with his girlfriend in Sydney Australia.

I have knowledge and skills that are beneficial to my new venture into Internet Marketing. And I am willing to help and support anyone on the same journey to our mutual success.

This is who I am.

Week 3 of the Quick Start Challenge

aweber & getresponse logosWeek 3 of the Quick Start Challenge

Already into Week 3 of the Quick Start Challenge. Can’t believe how quickly the time has gone by – means I must be enjoying it! I can certainly say that it has given me renewed vigor and has been the kick I have needed to properly resurrect the online journey I half heartedly started about 3 years ago.

This week’s challenge is to sign-up with an auto-responder company such as Aweber or GetResponse and to setup an opt-in form in a sidebar of my blog. The point of the exercise is to build a list of subscribers by giving away something of value in exchange for a visitor’s email address. The free “ethical bribe” as it is called, can be anything from an e-book to a video. As long as it is something that will attract visitors and is a more-than-fair exchange for their email address.

Whatever it is can be created from scratch or can be a (re-worked) PLR e-book or such like. PLR stands for Private Label Rights and products provided under PLR can be given away, sold and re-branded as your own work. However, it is important to confirm exactly which rights are allowed for a particular product. For example, some products cannot be given away and must be sold, usually for a price that must not be below a stated minimum, to preserve its value. Other products may state that they cannot be re-branded, re-named or claimed as your own work.

It is in your own interests and important to check exactly what can and cannot be done with a PLR product before it is offered on your site.

I didn’t take the OTO when I signed up for the QSC. It is called “Quick Start Challenge 2.0 Markets Package Pro – Done for You Program” and consists of a large number of products including Squeeze Pages, e-book giveaways, Articles, Graphics packages and much more, up to a total value of $1,212.

The cost is a fraction of the value, but the reason I didn’t take it myself is because in my previous online activities, including my “Bright Shiny Object” phase, I signed up to the PLR site “Resell Rights Weekly” and Dennis Becker’s membership site “Earn1KADay”. So I figured that I’ve already got access to all that kind-of stuff and it was about time I started to leverage what I have already paid for instead of buying even more stuff to fill my hard-disk with.

However, I have purchased the QSC 2.0 Reseller Program and will add it to my blog to hopefully make sales and gain affiliate commissions.

Also over the past 3 years, I have been a regular monthly contributor to Aweber. I say contributor because I have hardly used it as I know I really should. At some stage in the dim, dark and distant recesses of those past years, I did actually set it up and managed to capture some email addresses. But, alas it was really just an exercise in an early training course.

I’ll now have to dig around in the archived storage of my brain and try to remember how to set Aweber up properly.

Quick Start Challenge Week 2 Video

Here’s my video for Week 2 of the Quick Start Challenge, which has also been uploaded to YouTube.

By profession I am an enterprise IT systems architect and I am used to presenting in front of client audiences. However, I haven’t done it for over 4 years now, since I had a breakdown in 2010. You may think that is quite a big thing to admit, especially since this is a public post, but the fact is that it happened to me just as it is happening right now throughout the corporate world.

I feel no shame about it, nor is it a sign of weakness. It is, in fact, just the opposite. Those that continue to strive for more and are willing to take on new challenges or responsibilities. Climbing the corporate ladder, always aiming for greater success, really listening to people and seriously trying to help them and their business overcome issues and problems. Trying to do too much, without even thinking of delegating to someone else.

These are my attributes and of all the other people out there that have also suffered. One day your mind, true inner-self, whatever… just throws up its hands and says ENOUGH!….THAT’s IT…..NO-MORE!…SHUTTING-DOWN…..NOW!!

Anyone reading this who has had this experience will know exactly what I mean.

In the 4 years that I have been away from work, I have grown facial hair and am no-longer a suit & tie wearing clean-cut executive with a cell phone permanently plugged into my ear!

I have learned a lot during these past years, through various therapies, books, yoga & meditation. I am now more in-tune with my “inner-self” than I ever have been.

The time is now right for me to do something different. My corporate days are now behind me and I am ready to reinvent myself in the world of Internet Marketing. With the Quick Start Challenge and the enthusiasm of Dean Holland’s teachings – not forgetting the awesome group of like-minded individuals who have also signed up for QSC – I have the momentum to progress and take action!

Strategies and Mindset – Earning Income from Working Online At Home

Strategies and Mindset – Earning Income from Working Online At Home

Motivation is key to achieving any amount of success. Passion is the driving force behind motivation and every book or ebook that has been published on the subjects of money making and motivation, screams out Passion.

This is the most important ingredient in any successful entrepreneur, whether their business is online or offline. To go after that goal of working online from home for yourself requires a burning desire and passion to succeed. That desire should be strong enough to keep the fire of passion burning inside long enough for you to see the first financial returns from your online working efforts start rolling in.

When you see the first fruits of success, you become encouraged to carry on and inspired to do more. Of course,  you need to have a strong belief in yourself and your abilities. There will be those who will try and put you off, those types of people who are strongly opinionated and comment about everything under the sun. Take it in your stride, be thick skinned, don’t let them affect you in any way.

People can be just plain jealous that you have started your own business, something that they would never have the guts to do. Don’t seek approval from others, keep the belief in yourself and the passion you have to finally break free of the 9 to 5 wage slavery. Have the ability and courage to make independent decisions and stick by them. Your conscience will be clear as you remain true to yourself.  Notice that the negative opinions and nasty comments will disappear and maybe even turn into praise:

“I always had faith in you”, “I knew you could do it”, or words to that same effect.

“What are you doing, have you gone crazy!! Don’t you know that online businesses are basically scams!!??” That’s the popular opinion of many people in any part of the world. Your online business needs your approval and above all, belief – heart and soul.

Never underestimate that you are your own most valuable asset in your business, otherwise success and the income you planned to achieve from your online home business will keep eluding you. After all, if Thomas Edison did not believe that electricity could be harnessed to provide use with light, we would still be living in the dark ages, wouldn’t we?

Being flexible with working hours (but not to the point of staying in bed all day!!), being energetic, planning wisely, focusing on short-term objectives and stress control are hallmarks of a successful online home business owner.

Although it is very important to make a plan and see the “big picture”, remember that you can’t do it all at once. Small steps in the beginning lead on to large strides later! You may need to practice and train yourself if you think you are lacking in any of the necessary attributes. Get to know who you really are. Be honest, make a list, identify your short-comings and work to overcome them.

Having the motivation to start is very important but equally, to know when to stop is even more important. Strict discipline is required. Do not overwork or stress yourself to the point of not stopping. It will only burn out your imagination and render you useless for a period of time.

Driving yourself too hard to achieve a few bucks may well cause you to lose out on that next opportunity or sale, and that could amount to a large sum of money. Discipline yourself to work the set number of hours that should be part of your plan. Remember that your online business can’t function effectively without you!

Certainly at the early stages, building your online business and establishing your credibility is more important than earning money from it. This is an important truth and you should make sure your plans include sufficient funds set aside to cover living expenses. As your business begins to grow, the money you earn from it will also automatically grow.

Last but not the least, it is the emotional fear of failure that leads us to achieve actual failure. You are as successful as you think you are, or not, if that’s what you think. Your mind will direct you to do whatever you think, whether that is to fail or to succeed. Strategies and Mindset go hand-in-hand, so really believe in success, have a goal in mind and plan a strategy to achieve it.

Keep trying, keep believing in yourself and your own capabilities. The mind is a powerful thing, if you think you will fail, then you will. You have to develop the correct mindset. Look around for books/ebooks on Business Psychology, NLP and the Law of Attraction. I have found these subjects to be very beneficial and it’s no accident that most of the successful motivational speakers and business gurus out there attribute their success to having the right mindset, cultivated by one or all of these areas.

Check my website regularly, as I plan to also feature ebooks and courses on the best of these subjects related to a achieving a business mindset.

Remember, if failure happens, accept it as part of the learning process. Regard it as an opportunity to appreciate the benefit of the valuable knowledge you have gained. Everyone makes mistakes, learn from them. Babies fall many times before they finally master how to stand upright on two feet – but they never give up!

Here’s to Success in your Online Home Business!
